The Authority of Lampung Provincial Government in Managing Fisheries Resources in Autonomy Era

The COVID-19 pandemic had significantly affected the marine and fisheries industry in Indonesia. Demand for fishery products in the domestic and international markets declined which then lower the fisheries production. Local governments have major roles in restoring the condition. This research was performed to analyze how the local government of Lampung Province managed the fisheries resources using their authority and the efforts run by marine and fisheries office of Lampung Province in increasing the fisheries production. In this normative research, statutory approach was employed. The findings of this study align with the Governor's Regulation regarding the definition of core responsibilities and functions for the Lampung Province Maritime and Fisheries Service. This service operates as a key component of the local government, focusing on marine and fisheries matters, and is headed by a Service Chief who reports directly to the Governor. The Governor and Deputy Governor elected in 2019-2024 is committed to run advancement marine programs and ‘Berjaya’ Fishermen Program to enhance the industry and the welfare of fishermen. The Lampung Provincial Maritime and Fisheries Service collaborates with Lampung University to offer support in feed, fish nurseries, and the distribution of products across four districts and cities. Additionally, it focuses on streamlining the registration and licensing processes to enhance fishermen's capacities and simplify the procedures for licensing and shipping documentation.
